Dr Avikar Singh completed training as a Urologist at Greys Hospital, Pietermaritzburg in 2019, obtaining his fellowship and Master’s Degree in Urology in 2019 from the University of KwaZulu Natal.

Prior to this, Dr Singh completed his undergraduate degree in Medicine at the University of Cape Town in 2011.

His initial research publications included a retrospective review of nephrectomies, published in the South African Journal of Surgery. He was awarded the Van Blerk Award at the South African Urological Association (SAUA) Biennial Congress in 2016 for this research endeavour.

Other post-graduate research interests and publications include the topics of minimally invasive surgery, penile cancer and adrenal tumours, among others.

During his registrar time, Dr Singh attended several national and international congresses and workshops including the European Association of Urology in Barcelona, Spain, as well as training in Percutaneous Nephrolithotomy in Italy. He was also accepted and attended the intensive European Urology Residents Education Programme (EUREP) in Prague, Czech Republic.

In 2019, Dr Singh successfully qualified as a Specialist Urologist and registered with the Health Professionals Council as an Independent Specialist Practitioner, completing his training in the minimum required time.

He has served as a Consultant Specialist Urologist at Saint Aidan’s Hospital Since 2020.

He now consults as a private Urologist at Durban Medical Centre and Capital Hospital, with admission and theatre rights at a number of private hospitals in and around Durban.

Dr Singh remains up to date, constantly striving to bring his patients the best possible evidence-based care.
